Walking Through the Awkward | The Story of Us

The Story of Us

Everyone loves a love story. Whether the story boasts of great feats to preserve love or soft moments that lead to romance, we all just love love. Actually, one of the first things I ask my couples is how they met! To me, it is such a good way to get to know them and their relationship! I especially like when they both tell “their side” of the story! haha.

Josh and I get asked about our love story all the time. It’s just one of those questions you ask couples. Ya know.. “So, how did you two meet?” It comes up a lot! We love telling it {and we have our sides of the story too. ;)}. So, we decided it would be fun to share it with you! Now, I will warn you, it’s quite a ride. So, hang on and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Walking Through the Awkward

*Tap. Tap. Tap.* The sound of the backspace echoed through the small dorm room. Samantha had a blanket wrapped around her as she sat in her desk chair. She could hear music playing from the room below her. She stared at her computer screen. Normally, her fingers nimbly raced across her keyboard. But, today, she was having a hard time.

Feeling pressed, she knew she had to reply, but the words just weren’t coming. Josh had started a few Facebook conversations with her in the past couple of weeks. And every time, she felt so awkward and formal. “What do I say?” she would ask herself. She had never had Facebook conversations with a guy that she wasn’t a close friend with.

Josh sat on his couch with his computer in his lap. He and his roommates had just finished eating at their favorite Chinese restaurant. He could tell that she felt uncomfortable. But he knew if he kept asking questions, things would get easier. He loved getting to know people, and he was good at making conversation. So, he kept talking. He kept asking questions. He was going to help her through the awkward.

And, soon, they were talking multiple times a week. They knew what made each other laugh and even shared their struggles. Their conversations had taken a drastic turn. From stiff and predictable to playful and spontaneous. Josh started looking for that little green circle by her name. To see if she was online. Just waiting to see if they could talk. And, she did the same thing. He had even asked her to go with a group to another study a little farther away. She excitedly accepted and they planned when to meet up.

Samantha drove to Josh’s house. Her hands gripped the steering wheel at the proper 10 and 2 positions. The trees outside the window were starting to show signs of fall colors. The sun reflected off a large river nearby. The glittering light bounced into the car as she drove across a bridge.  The car was silent. She usually turned on some of her favorite music. But, today, she was lost in thought. And she couldn’t stop thinking about Josh.

They had quickly become great friends. And they talked all the time. But, something was different about him. He seemed to care about everyone he met. Sincerely. She hadn’t met many people like that. On top of that, he was was always laughing and smiling. She liked that. Maybe she liked him. As she pulled into his driveway, her stomach dropped. She was nervous. A sign that seemed to affirm her suspicions.
