What to Wear for Engagement Photos | 13 Tips for Looking Your Best

Man and woman touch foreheads at end of a dock.

Okay. Real talk. Engagement session are exciting. But, it can be hard to know how to plan your outfits. So, here are 13 tips on what to wear for your engagement photos! These tips will help you figure out which outfits to wear, what styles to choose, and what things to bring with you. I hope that these tips empower you to rock your engagement session and feel more confident in front of the camera!

1. Feel Comfortable and Confident

If you don’t feel comfortable and in what you are wearing, you will be able to see that in your images! Once you pick an outfit, go ahead try it on a few times to make sure you are comfortable.

2. Dress It Up

You don’t get engagement pictures done every day! Time to dress it up and look fabulous! Long skirts/dresses and heels flatter the female figure while long pants and closed toe shoes flatter males.

3. Pick Soft/Neutral Colors

Soft and neutral colors are very flattering on camera. White, creams, blues, pinks, or any softer colors will make your skin tone look awesome!

4.Coordinate, Don’t Match!

Most people feel like they have to match their fiance in their engagement pictures. However, this is not the case. You can wear different colors, but make sure the colors coordinate with each other! That means that the colors should compliment each other.

5. Add A Pop of Color

Though your outfits shouldn’t be overly bright, that doesn’t mean your outfit has to be bland! Pick a few accessories that add some color into your wardrobe!

6. Plan Your Outfits

Pick out your outfits a few days in advance, and try them on! Make sure that you cannot see any undergarments!

7. Think About Posing

Make sure they are still comfortable and appropriate in various positions: sitting, kneeing, hands-above-your-head.

8. Check White Clothing

If your outfits are lighter in color, make sure you cannot see through them!

9. Iron it

All outfits need to be clean and without wrinkles before your session.

10. What to Avoid

Try to avoid overwhelming patterns, large logos, baggy pieces, or horizontal stripes for your session.

11. Layer It

Men look awesome in layers. Whether it is a suit or a sweater over a button-up, layers just make your guy look his best.

12. Accessorize

Don’t forget to pick out accessories for your session! Whether it’s your jewelry or a watch for your man, it can be easy to leave them behind.

13. Props

My couples always love bringing props. Whether it’s a floral bouquet, bikes, a picnic, blankets, or a vintage couch, they always make the session more fun and personal!
